New Phone System Technology to Expect in 2013

enhanced business phone systemsWhen was the last time you stopped to consider the cost-effectiveness and relevance of your current business phone system? If it's been awhile, it may be time for you to start thinking about giving it a much needed makeover. It's important that as old landline systems become obsolete, that companies don't find themselves going down with it.

As a modern business, it is critical that you stay on top of the latest trends as telephone technology continues to advance. 2013 is the year to say "goodbye" to old fashioned Houston phone systems and "hello" to the latest and greatest in communications developments. Here's a look at what you can expect this year.

1. An increase in VoIP users

If you think that other businesses and individuals are still using dated Houston phone systems, guess again! A recent study from marketing research firm "In-Stat" revealed results that prove just the opposite. In addition to businesses making the switch to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) telephony, this year will bring about a big boom in VoIP for mobile users. Based upon evidence from the report, it is projected that by the end of 2013:

  • Mobile VoIP users will reach 288 million
  • Over 50% of mobile phone users will make calls via VoIP networks
  • 1/3 of these mobile users will employ mobile VoIP with 3G MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators)

So what does all of this mean, exactly? From this data, we can safely assume that VoIP will very rapidly become the preferred method of communications in 2013. The integration of outside network applications from MVNOs to enable mobile users to make VoIP calls, rather than going through their actual phone networks, will enable huge cost savings for users.

The end result will be the increased ease of long-distance communications from person-to-person, consumer-to-business, and even business-to-business. VoIP already allows your mobile employees to remain connected to their desk phones, but with mobile VoIP services, they can also take advantage of the same call savings, meaning a lower communications budget for your business across the board.

2. Comprehensive call data mining/analytics

Expect a move toward comprehensive telephony solutions designed to mine big data for assisting businesses in making better-educated decisions this year. Analytics in cloud telephony could lead to useful discoveries such as:

  • What time of day yields the highest number of actual voice conversations
  • In which regions of the company this is applicable
  • And amongst which demographics

There are literally billions of potentially helpful and highly relevant call attributes, and VoIP/Cloud telephony are looking for ways to organize all of this big data in a way that is meaningful for businesses.

3. Interactive voice broadcast applications

Generally, voice broadcast applications have always been a one-way calling method, however, this may all change in 2013. Being able to determine who is actually responding to these types of broadcast messages is extremely important. As an example, during the floods in Pakistan, SMS users were able to receive useful information via mobile response. Not only is this relevant in emergency situations, but could also be beneficial from a business standpoint.

Voice broadcasts announcing promotions, specials, service updates, etc. could be enhanced through interactive options. Not only would consumers be able to respond to notifications from your Houston phone systems for more information, but you would have a better idea of which messages are most effective, and to which demographic(s). Therefore, mobile broadcast applications may take off in 2013, allowing the combination of text and voice to take mass notifications to the next level.
